Create Cluster in Confluent Cloud¶
This topic shows how to create an Apache Kafka® cluster in Confluent Cloud.
Applicable to Confluent Cloud only. If you’re using Confluent Cloud Enterprise, contact Confluent Cloud Support for assistance.
From the Clusters page, click Create cluster if no clusters are present. Otherwise, click + Add cluster. The New cluster page appears.
Specify a cluster name, cloud provider and region, cluster type, and then follow the instructions based on your cluster type. For a description of cluster types, see Confluent Cloud Cluster Types.
Multi-tenant cluster with limited feature set. Specify a cluster name, cloud provider and region, cluster type Basic, and click Continue.
Multi-tenant cluster with full feature set and 99.95% SLA. Specify a cluster name, cloud provider and region, cluster type Standard, availability, and click Continue.
Dedicated cluster with full feature set and 99.95% SLA. Specify a cluster name, cloud provider and region, cluster type Dedicated, availability, cluster size, and click Continue.
The cluster size is determined by the number of Confluent Unit for Kafka (CKU). CKUs determine the capacity and limits of your cluster. The cluster size and number of CKUs you select will affect the cost and capacity of your cluster.
Use this table to determine the number of CKUs to use for a given workload. This table shows the benchmarked capacity per CKU using the Confluent Performance Benchmark with 1 KB messages.
Dimension Capacity Ingress 50 MB/s Egress 150 MB/s Storage (pre-replication) 10 TB Partitions (pre-replication) 4500 Total client connections 1000 Connection attempts per second 80 Requests per second 15,000
Dedicated clusters can be purchased with 1, 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, or 20 CKUs. To provision a cluster with more than 20 CKUs, you must contact your Confluent sales representative.
You can expand your cluster after provisioning, to increase the number of CKUs and the capacity of your cluster.
