Confluent Private Cloud Release Notes

The following sections summarize the technical details of the Confluent Private Cloud releases.

Confluent Private Cloud 8.4 Release Notes

Confluent Private Cloud 8.4 includes the following new features.

Multi-Tenancy

Multi-Tenancy enables platform teams to run multiple isolated logical Kafka clusters (LKCs) on a single shared physical Kafka cluster (PKC) managed through Confluent for Kubernetes (CFK).

Key capabilities include:

  • Broker-native isolation: Enforces topic, authorization, and resource quota boundaries within the broker. Each LKC has its own limits for ingress and egress byte rates, broker request capacity, and partitions.

  • CFK lifecycle management: Enables Multi-Tenancy on the PKC with spec.multiTenant.enabled and provisions each LKC with the LogicalKafkaCluster custom resource using CFK.

  • Tenant-scoped roles: Adds the OrganizationAdmin role for PKC-wide management and the TenantAdmin role for managing a single LKC. Developers get access through role-based access control (RBAC) role bindings scoped to a specific LKC.

  • Ecosystem and monitoring support: Runs dedicated Connect, ksqlDB, and REST Proxy instances for each LKC with discovery.kind: LogicalKafkaCluster.

  • Control Center visibility: Confluent Control Center 2.7 or later automatically discovers each LKC on a multi-tenant PKC and shows its quota usage. Users see only the LKCs that their RBAC role bindings grant them access to. For details, see Control Center for Confluent Platform.

  • Licensing: Multi-Tenancy is a Confluent Private Cloud server feature that is included in the Confluent Enterprise license for Confluent Private Cloud subscription. For details, see Enterprise license for Confluent Private Cloud subscription.

For information about deploying and managing CFK, see Confluent for Kubernetes.

Confluent Private Cloud 8.3 Release Notes

Confluent Private Cloud 8.3 does not include new Confluent Private Cloud-specific features. For Confluent Gateway releases, see Confluent Private Cloud Gateway Release Notes.

Confluent Private Cloud 8.2 Release Notes

Confluent Private Cloud 8.2 does not include new Confluent Private Cloud-specific features. For Confluent Gateway releases, see Confluent Private Cloud Gateway Release Notes.

Confluent Private Cloud 8.1 Release Notes

Confluent Private Cloud 8.1 is the initial major release with the following new features.

Intelligent Replication

Intelligent Replication delivers up to 10x performance improvements for Kafka workloads at scale. This performance technology, previously available only in Confluent Cloud, is now available to self-managed Confluent Platform clusters through Confluent Private Cloud.

It includes two components:

  • A new replication implementation to complement Kafka’s existing replication implementation

  • An algorithm that monitors and intelligently switches between replication implementations to achieve performance while maintaining replica consistency

For details, see Intelligent Replication Overview.

Confluent Private Cloud Gateway

The Confluent Private Cloud Gateway (Confluent Gateway) is an Kafka protocol-aware proxy positioned between clients and clusters for stateless routing. It is designed to support secure and scalable connectivity for private cloud deployments.

For Confluent Gateway versions and release details, see Confluent Private Cloud Gateway Release Notes.
