Explore, create, and evolve schemas in Schema Registry
With Confluent for VS Code, you can browse the schemas in Schema Registry, view schema definitions and their versions, and create or evolve schemas from inside your editor.
Explore schemas
The Schemas view displays all the schemas available for the selected
Schema Registry cluster. Schemas also appear in the Topics view when you expand a
topic item. The subject name must follow the TopicNameStrategy or
TopicRecordNameStrategy
schema naming strategy,
and you must have the appropriate permissions.
To view a schema definition, expand the schema subject to list its versions. Then click a specific version. To see the most recent version without expanding the subject, click the View Latest Schema icon next to the subject.
Create and evolve schemas
To create a schema or evolve an existing one, open or create a file with
an .avsc, .proto, or .json extension. Click the Cloud
Upload icon in the editor tab. This starts a flow where you select a
Schema Registry cluster and a subject to bind the schema to. You can bind the schema
to a new subject, or upload a revised schema for an existing subject to
register a new version.
To validate your Avro, JSON Schema, or Protobuf syntax, search the VS Code Marketplace for a compatible extension.
